Ytterbium-Doped Single Frequency Laser for Precision Photonics
An ytterbium-dopedsingle frequency laser is a specialized fiber laser designed to deliver highly stable optical output with a narrow spectral linewidth and excellent coherence. By using ytterbium ions as the active gain medium, these lasers can provide efficient operation in the near-infrared wavelength range, making them suitable for precision applications that require stable and low-noise laser sources. Research has demonstrated Yb-doped single-frequency fiber lasers with narrow linewidths ranging from the kilohertz level to sub-kilohertz performance. The key advantage of single-frequency operation is the ability to suppress unwanted longitudinal modes and produce a highly pure optical signal. Fiber Bragg gratings, polarization-maintaining fibers, narrowband filters, short cavities, and ring-cavity configurations can be used to achieve stable single-longitudinal-mode operation. For example, experimental Yb-doped fiber laser systems have demonstrated narrow linewidths below...
